Editing Posts and Pages
Editing a post, or editing a page is almost identical to writing a post or writing a page. The only difference is how you access the screens where you previously wrote your post or your page.
The method we will use to edit a post or a page will work every time. Although there can be many ways to access the editing screens, this method will work regardless of which theme you use. The reason for this method is simply because some theme authors do not include in their templates a way to edit a post or edit a page directly from the screen displaying the post or page.
First off, log into your blog. This will bring you to your Dashboard.
On the right side you will see a row of links that starts with “Write”, then the next link will be “Manage”. Click on the Manage link.
The default screen is generally going to be to “Manage Posts”. Choose the post you want to edit by clicking on its title. This will open up the “Write Post” screen you saw in the Getting Started: Your First Post tutorial.
Now you can edit what you want to change and then click on the save button, just like when you first wrote the post. After you click save you will see a message under the “Manage” links showing the post was updated.
If you want a different title to the post and want the Permalink to reflect that change then you will need to click on the “edit” at the end of the Permalink reference for the post. A Permalink is an URL for your post that is originally generated by the system. It can be edited at any time while writing or editing a post.
This will open the the high-lighted part of the link in a text box you can edit.
Click the “Save” button at the end of the Permalink line, or cancel if you do not want to change your Permalink.
I find that I often will write a post without starting with a title. WordPress (the blogging software) will automatically generate a numeric value for your post after a short period of time. This link will be used as your Permalink unless you edit it to something you prefer.
The Permalink to your post is how most people will link to your post, and how most search engines will link to it as well. The more appropriate a title and usual matching Permalink the better, unless you like to refer to your posts by their number.
Any changes made to the post need still need to be saved for them to take effect. This is the “Save” button on the right side of the screen.
To edit a page, change where “post” appears above to “page” and follow the steps in the same way to make your edits.
