Your First Post
After you have received the details to access your weblog, usually by way of an email. You are ready to start blogging.
Blogging is just another term for writing on the Internet. You can think of a blog, or as it is more properly known a weblog, as simply an online journal or diary. That was the basic sense of blogs beginnings. Today, blogs are still used in much the same way except they are also used as Content Management Systems, places to collaborate on porjects, on-line books, and so much more. What you will do with your blog is entirely up to your own imagination and creativity.
These tutorials will be using screenshots, clips, and images generally based on a standard default template. This one we are using is the “Kubric” template. There are many more involved and intricate themes available for use with your blog and these will be covered more thoroughly in a future ”Help Topic” about changing your blog theme.
The first thing you will have to do is get logged into your blog. When you first go to your blog URI you will generally see a default template. On the bottom right side, you may need to scroll down a bit on the page, you will see some links to site related pages. Click on the “Log in” link to open the login page.
Fill in your Username and your Password. (You would have received these details in an email after your blog has been created for you.) Click on the “Log In” button and this will open your “Dashboard” page.
The dashboard is where you will perform most of your blog administration functions at.
On the left side of the page you will see these links. Clicking on the “Write” link will open up the page for creating new posts by default. You can click on “Page” to create a new page, or “Link” to create a new link. We will cover these in other tutorials. This tutorial will help you write your first blog post and have you on your way to Internet writing history.
Now that you are looking at the new post screen you are only a few steps away from writing your first post.
Enter a title for this post in the box directly below “Title”, then enter the content of your post in the box directly below “Post”.
What you write is essentially entirely up to you. You can start with something simple like My First Post; and, write a few lines telling the world a bit about yourself or what you want your blog to be about. You can write about your favorite place, or pet, or movie, or book. You could write a poem. You could post images of places you have been on your latest vacation.
On the right side of the page you will see some controls for this post you are writing. To publish this post for all the Internet to be able to read, simply click on the “Publish” button and your done. If you get called away in the middle of writing a post and wish to save your writing just click on the “Save” button and the program will create a draft copy of what you have written. You will be able to return to it later to edit and/or post at your convenience. You can publish your post to the Internet and keep it for your eyes only by checking the box beside “Keep this post private”. Just uncheck it and Save if you want the post to be public.
You are now ready to write your first post.
Enjoy!
